5 of the Best – Homage’s to Westeros

Game of Thrones returns to our screens with its’ 4th season, with the premier hitting UK screens very early Monday morning at 2am! To celebrate we decided to scour the web for some of the best fan service towards the televised series and to share with you a few of our favourites.

Five Fan made pieces in honour of Game of Thrones

A Song of Ice and Fire by Wavesheep

Game of Thrones is already a cult classic, and it has inspired screeds of amazing fan art. But one of our absolute favourites is this piece. Dedicated to the written series so far, it utilises a manga re-imagining of the characters. The result is a beautiful work of art that more resembles an ancient tapestry than the digital art it is.

Game of Thrones food truck, from Chef Tom Colicchio

Game of Thrones

Okay, so not strictly made by fans, this was a promotional stunt by HBO to increase excitement for the coming of the third season. Colicchio developed the menu inspired by the food of five of the regions of Westeros. The food truck eventually toured some of the biggest cities in the world, including a short visit to London. If like us you want to recreate the menu for your own season premier party, here’s a wee taster of what was on offer.

Breakfast:
Spiced, cracked wheat Medieval porridge
Saffron & nutmeg buns
Main:
Wild boar cured sausage with mustard preserved fruits
Root soup with pumpkin bread
Pudding:
Lemon cake

Game of Thrones Beer from Ommegang Brewery

American brewery Ommegang have teamed up with HBO to develop a series of beers dedicated to our favourite TV series.  Each one is a homage to separate families in the series, with the most recent called Fire & Blood in honour of House Targaryan. The beer promises a fruity flavour, with a spicy aftertaste, taking after our beloved Daenerys and her dragons. Unfortunately they are unable to ship to the UK, but here’s hoping one of our many craft breweries back home take notice and make their own!

Geek overload from Lokiable

House Parker

Whenever “geeks” get excited about something, you can count on some of them smashing together their favourite things to create even better, geekier awesomeness! DeviantArtist Lokiable did just that, creating Westeros-esque house banners for his favourite fictional characters. We’re a big fan of crossover art, and definitely approve of this!

Throne of _________

There have been loads of recreations of one of the most iconic pieces of the Westeros set. Matchsticks, to Lego, this artist decided to go full nerd and make a throne of keyboards. And the best thing? It’s for sale!! For a mere $500!!

Game of Thrones Remix

Game of Thrones has given us some absolutely amazing music, from the opening sequence to the Rains of Castamere. It’s also allowed its’ very creative fanbase to get to work making covers and remixes. One of the most recent to emerge into the viral-verse is this autotuned piece of genius from the ever brilliant Melody Sheep. If this doesn’t get you in the mood for Monday I don’t know what will.

We’re looking forward to a long day on Monday after very little sleep the night before. How will you be celebrating the return of Game of Thrones?
